Cannabis Access During the Maine Wedding Season

The tide is changing for Cannabis on so many levels. Let’s talk about how it is changing for one of the most popular “events” to have in Maine. Weddings!

One of my best friends is a wedding planner and she says she can not believe how many brides/grooms are inquiring about how they can incorporate cannabis into their special day. Sure, signature cocktails and beer and wine will always have their place, but what about cutting-edge craft cannabis options?

Summer Cannabis Options at Maine Dispensaries

Maine is rapidly landing on the national map as a sought-after place to go for the best flower around. Not only are people chasing the gorgeous weather that Maine is known for along with the majestic beauty of lakes, ocean, lighthouses, and unpopulated landscapes. But now they are also coming from near and far for our cannabis.

Is Cannabis the Missing Piece to Your Maine Wedding Experience?

It is the quintessential dream destination for a summer wedding. I had my own (two weddings) in mid-coast Maine, with the lobster boats bobbing in the background and the June lupine blooming in the fields. Both days (about 7 years apart) boasted the most glorious weather one could ever dream of. The lobster was served, and every guest was content. However, decidedly one thing was missing from my 2003 and 2010 weddings, and that was cannabis. It’s just amazing how much has changed with its legalization and outpouring of interest and support.

In September of 2021, John and I opened Portland Greenhouse after a long and arduous couple of years of frustration with the long, drawn-out legal process as Portland worked out the kinks of the recreational market. Here we are, though, poised for an amazing summer as locals as well as visitors come out of the woodwork and swarm our beautiful state.

Cannabis and the 2022 Post-COVID Wedding Season

Summer 2022, “post covid”, is supposed to be the biggest summer ever for weddings in Maine. Thousands of people will say “I do” here, and it is amazing for our economy, including our Cannabis economy. As Cannabis becomes more and more mainstream, couples are incorporating it into their weddings.

In this Post Independent article, I love where it says “When couples plan for their special day, careful thought is put into every detail—food, drinks, decor — and the same planning needs to be done with a cannabis wedding”. Maybe not everyone wants a “cannabis wedding” where cannabis is the focal point, but what we ARE seeing, is that couples are wanting cannabis to at least play a part in their big day, as an offering or as an alternative to guests. Not everyone wants a cocktail or beer these days, and many are opting for a non-hangover option. Cannabis strains are so nuanced in so many ways these days to have an upbeat, euphoric effect, perfect for an evening of dancing and socializing.

Portland Greenhouse Dispensary Prepares for a Summer of Weddings

What we are seeing at Portland Greenhouse is a desire for pre-rolls at a place setting or cannabis-infused “cocktails” on the drink offerings. Our awesome budtenders Scott and Maradi are available for personalized consultations regarding the perfect cannabis accompaniment to each individual couple’s unique wedding story.

As we prepare for what we know will be an incredibly busy summer, we are already working with brides, grooms, and wedding planners with personalized consultations on how to incorporate cannabis into their bachelor/bachelorette party, their rehearsal dinner, their actual wedding reception, and all of the above. The tides are changing, and they are coming in high!
